The Power Tools for Living program helps develop the six core character traits of Respect, Responsibility, Relationship Skills, Empathy, Boundaries, and Choices and Consequences by partnering children and adolescents with horses. Results: Emotional/social wellness Improved relationships Enhanced academic and job performance Why horses are utilized: They are sensitive and highly attuned to participant’s feelings and nonverbal communication. They provide immediate feedback and are able to change that feedback as soon as participants change their behavior, emotion, intent and congruence. As the participants work with horses, they immediately see how using the key skills will help them succeed.
The students must use creative problem solving and teamwork while applying the new core character traits. Being outdoors and using hands-on learning techniques helps students with all learning styles to succeed. This empowers participants and gives them confidence in their ability to set goals and achieve them in the moment as well as in their future.
The program is fun, challenging and life changing.
